Caves Roguelike is, as its name suggests, a traditional roguelike in which you spend most of your time exploring caves and fighting all kinds of monsters. Luckily, you'll have an assortment of specialized tools for each of these two tasks: a pickaxe to make your way through the walls of the dungeons, and all kinds of swords, maces, pistols, and shotguns to fight against the countless enemies trying to kill you.
What makes Caves Roguelike unique is that players have a base of operations from which they can clone their character. This way, every time your character dies, you can create a new one by choosing its attributes from scratch and assigning it different skill points. With the stones and gems you collect as you play, you can also build permanent improvements within your base. These upgrades give you access to better equipment and skills from the beginning.
In terms of gameplay, Caves Roguelike offers an experience that's very close to other games within this genre. Both character movement and combat are turn-based, and any trap, enemy, or object can be deadly if you're not careful. Likewise, every time you start a new game, all the settings and loot are randomly generated, so you'll never see the same dungeon twice or face the same group of enemies.
Although this game is an excellent example of a classic roguelike, both the controls and the interface have been perfectly adapted to touch screens, so you don't have to deal with lots of buttons, keyboard shortcuts, and other barriers typically found in this genre. To move, simply tap on an empty square. Likewise, to attack, all you have to do is tap on the enemy in question.
Caves Roguelike is certainly one of the best examples of this genre for Android operating systems. This is a game created specifically for touch screens and it shows, from its interface and controls to the flow of the game itself. Best of all, Caves has a huge community of players, so you can find lots of Wikis with useful information, as well as plenty of Discord channels where you can talk about the game.
